    Hi Drayton
I have just appointed sales designer for a high end oak orangery and conservatory company for the midlands .my sales skills aren’t the best but the company felt my knowledge of the industry and personality should carry me through . Any way my question is as follows
I think that people buy from people and it’s the know ,trust and like path that I hope to follow ,let me explain further
I’m thinking I should send an introductory email with a bit about myself and stating what i intend to do on sv1 then after visit send email confirming what I did and what I’m doing next etc .my mind set being if I tell them about me it helps to know me ,doing what I say helps them to trust me and as for like me who knows .hope this makes sense
    Regards Julian

      You are mostly right, Julian.

I have done a lot of work in this field for people like Magnet and Everest, going back to the late ’70s.

I found that explaining the process to people once you’ve got them interested really does pay off

But nobody cares a damn who you are until you’ve told them what you can do for them.

If you start by talking about yourself you are like the boastful bore in the bar.

First tell them what you can do, then explain in detail how you will go about it step by step in great detail. They will be much happier bunnies.

This is very important. We are all familiar with what I call Vanishing Builder Syndrome.

They come, they start work, they disappear.

Interestingly the people who get this wrong – almost without exception – are advertising and marketing agencies. Few have a clue, especially the big ones.

I saw a message yesterday from someone who used to work for me and went to his current agency’s website.

Most of it was about them and their “philosophy”.

      Who gives a s**t?

      But that is another subject.
